LIFE SKILLS

It can be defined as the abilities for adaptive and positive behavior that enables an individual to deal effectively with the demands and challenges of everyday life. In addition, life skills help an individual to develop positive attitudes towards self and others by transforming knowledge, skills and values into action

Course Content

The concept of development and underdevelopment, socio-economic indicators of growth and development. Causes of unemployment. Causes of poverty. Group dynamics; structure and behaviour of small groups; leadership; organizing people and activities such as harambee; division of labour. Technology and society, role and responsibility of professionals in rural/industrial environment; social effects of computerization/automation, impact of information technology. Ethics: nature of morality, place of morality in society ; human centered ethics and place of humanity in the natural world.

Concept of co-operative society formation, the Rochdale equitable pioneers, the co-operative principles as responded by the  Rochdale pioneers, co-operative schools of thought, reasons for formation of co-operatives, co-operatives vis-à-vis other forms of business enterprise, classification of co-operatives, liberalization and its effect on co-operatives, role of co-operative in national development, the future of co-operatives, corporate governance and Saccos.
